Cordless tools have been around for centuries, providing convenience and practicality to those who need them. Initially, cordless tools were powered by steam or electricity, but batteries became the most common power source as technology advanced. With batteries, cordless tools became even more convenient and efficient, allowing users to take them anywhere without cords. Over the years, cordless tools have become increasingly advanced and are now used in various applications, from carpentry to plumbing. Recently, there has been a surge in the development of cordless tools, with manufacturers introducing new models that feature longer battery life, improved power and accuracy, and a variety of other features. As technology progresses, cordless tools will only become more advanced, providing users with even more convenience and efficiency.

History of cordless tool

The first cordless tool was designed and manufactured by Black & Decker in 1961.This was the beginning of a new era in the history of tools. The innovation was exciting;it was big enough to convince Martin Marietta Corporation to contract Black & Decker to design cordless tools for NASA’s Apollo space exploration program. So, cordless tools were initially invented to make digging for samples on the Moon easier, where there was no power. This revolutionary tool allowed users to move around freely while working without needing a power outlet. The drill used a nickel-cadmium battery and was heavy and bulky due to the size of the battery.
Since then, the cordless tool market has grown dramatically. Improvements in battery technology and design have allowed manufacturers to create lighter and more powerful tools. Lithium-ion batteries are now the most common type used in cordless tools. They are smaller, lighter, and more efficient than nickel-cadmium batteries and can provide more power for extended periods.
The cordless tool market has become extremely competitive in the past few decades. Manufacturers constantly strive to create the most powerful, efficient, and reliable tools. This competition has led to a wide range of cordless tools, from drills and saws to screwdrivers and grinders.

History of cordless tool

History of lithium batteries

The history of lithium batteries dates back to the early 19th century. In 1859, John F. Daniell, an English physicist, invented the first rechargeable battery using zinc and copper electrodes and a solution of potassium hydroxide.
In the late 19th century, the first commercial battery, the Lead-Acid battery, was developed. This battery used lead electrodes and sulfuric acid as the electrolyte. In the early 20th century, researchers began experimenting with lithium as an alternative to lead in batteries. In 1912, Waldemar Jungner, a Swedish scientist, developed the first non-rechargeable lithium battery. This battery used lithium as its anode and manganese dioxide as its cathode. During the 1950s, a variety of new battery chemistries were developed, including Lithium-Ion (Li-ion), Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd), and Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH). These chemistries offered improved performance over Lead-Acid batteries but were still limited by their relatively low energy density. In the 1980s, researchers began experimenting with lithium-metal anodes. The first commercial lithium-metal batteries were developed in 1991 by Sony. These batteries used a carbon-based cathode and a lithium-metal anode. Sony and Asahi Kasei developed the first truly rechargeable lithium-ion battery in 1991.
Since then, lithium-ion batteries have become the most widely used battery, powering various devices, including laptops, cell phones, cameras, and electric cars.

Advantage of cordless tool

Battery that lasts

One of the best things about using cordless tools is having batteries that go the extra mile. These batteries are specially made to hold a charge for long periods. With durable batteries, your work can be done without worry that it might die in the middle of your projects. Look at the projected lasting hours before making your final decision upon purchase. This will give you a general sense of whether the battery is good enough to function how you need it to.
Take your tool with ease
Cordless tools offer an advantage to those who need to take their equipment with them, as they don’t require cords that need to be coiled up. This allows you to move around freely, as the items can be securely held and transported. No longer do you have to struggle with getting the coil just right; instead, it’s a breeze to assemble your items and move on to the next task. This could save you considerable time, as those long wires and power strips can be quite difficult to manage and keep in tip-top shape.

No longer stuck in place

The limited mobility of corded tools can be a major obstacle to completing projects. Fortunately, cordless tools have made it easier to move around and work without worrying about the length of the power cord or needing an extension. Cordless tools provide increased freedom of movement and make it much simpler to finish tasks easily and confidently.

Work Outdoors Easier

Your outdoor projects can now be completed with less stress and more efficiency. With cordless tools, you won’t have to worry about setting up an area with a generator or an outdoor plug. Your tools are always charged and ready to go, so you can skip the long and difficult setups and get to work right away. Enjoy a more efficient and stress-free experience with the convenience of cordless tools.

Safer Surrounding

Have you ever considered how many power tool accidents occur due to someone tripping over a cord? Construction mistakes, such as cords not being laid down correctly, can be hazardous, and the workers often pay the price. To address this issue, cordless power tools provide a much safer alternative. With these tools, you no longer have to worry about cords lying around on the ground or needing to be moved around to get the best angle. You can safely get close to your project without checking your area for loose wires. Cordless power tools are convenient and safe, making them a great option when finishing projects.
